Literature Text

They come every year
On the 45th day
Descending upon the world with
Their cries and their anarchy

Star crossed lovers one and all
Every man, woman and child
Fighting for the same God
But with differing agendas

They all say it’s a losing game
For those who have already lost

But secretly all wish to wake
And see those drafting papers
By their bed, on lavender paper
With their loved ones calling them
Calling them to the war
A war of the heart, for good or ill

Lead as they are by their God’s general
Who’s baby face and innocent smile
Cannot take away his cruelty
And his bow that never fails
To pierce the hearts of the unready

I write these words with heavy hands
For I fear that I too am doomed
Forced into the battalions of lovers
Holding the colours high
Sounding the trumpets with love songs

I am doomed like all the rest
To be another soldier, another casualty
Of Saint Valentine’s army
No sure why I like this so much but i do :) Feedback is always extremely well received, how can i hope to improve without it?
(Oh and stanza 5 is referring to Cupid, for those who didn't get it. Except I know you did. You're great)
